The case for getting a move on with abatement
Nine out of every ten schools in big cities could have asbestos prompting a leading asbestos lawyer to call for immediate action to abatement. Peter Lodge, a solicitor and expert in the subject from Cheltenham firm Festival Law has suggested there is a boom in asbestos related diseases with the worst still to come. Teachers and pupils are directly affected by the presence of asbestos when works, maintenance and damage exposes the material - even in pre-schools built between 1950 and 2000. It's also estimated that 19 teachers die each year as a result of mesothelioma. Professor Sir Anthony Newman Taylor, director of research at National Heart and Lung Institute said this week: “There has been a huge drop in exposure to asbestos since the eighties, but this is a legacy condition… more than half the cases are still to come.” There has been a response from the Government in this…
